Its been 32 days since I started a practice of daydreaming. I was initially inspired by Carl Jung’s writings on what he called, “Active Imagination”. There are several helpful Youtube channels that I’ve included links to in my posts. After more research, I learned that Active Imagination was never intended to become a technique, per se. This came as an initial bummer because I tend to always look for the easiest path through things and having an explicit method is always a fantasy I fight with. Instead Jung’s intent was to share his experience so that others might be encouraged to find their own ways of engaging the unconscious.
So I’m still very much figuring out my own ritual but in the process I’ve significantly strengthened the “muscles” of my imagination. I can tell because more of my thoughts are related to creation or a project I’m working on. Inspirations seems to follow me, which might very well just be a season, but the timing and intensity seem unique. Nevertheless, one of the ideas that resulted from these practice sessions was storytelling by sequential art. I’ve only done comic strip/graphic storytelling one time in my life, and that was at sixteen when I made a comic about sneaking out of my house because I thought no one would believe me unless I could make the proof. I actually still have that piece from 1999. I figured I should include that below.
I bought the domain name imaginationillustrated.com which just popped into my head after a few shots of espresso. I decided to run with it.
